Launch time: Thursday, March 12 at 9PM PT / Friday, March 13 at 12AM ET
Mode: Black Ops Royale — a Blackout-inspired Battle Royale with modern Warzone updates.
What Black Ops Royale Is
A new BR experience rooted in the original Blackout style:
-
No Loadouts
-
No Buy Stations
-
No Gulag
-
No in-game cash
-
You drop in with a pistol + wingsuit and must scavenge and upgrade to win.
Players / Match Format
-
100 players
-
25 squads of quads
-
Dynamic, shifting Collapse circle that moves match-to-match to keep the whole map active.
Avalon: New Big Map
Avalon joins the big map pool (alongside other Warzone maps). It’s built for BR pacing with:
-
Dense city zones + interior combat spaces
-
Longer sightlines and varied terrain
-
Less water than earlier versions: more sandbars/shallow crossings to improve rotations and flow
-
Land/sea/air vehicle options, including a new 5-seat light helicopter with flares
Core Gameplay Loop
1) Infil: Scavenge to Survive
-
Early game is about looting weapons, armor, equipment, perks, killstreaks
-
There’s risk vs reward across the map: every match plays differently
2) Upgrade Weapons With Attachment Kits
Weapons have two key systems:
-
Weapon Rarity: Common → Uncommon → Rare → Epic → Legendary
-
Weapon Build Archetype: fixed build style (like CQB, Covert, Recon, Stalker, etc.)
Instead of swapping individual attachments:
-
Find Attachment Kits (purple glow) to upgrade rarity
-
Each rarity upgrade automatically unlocks the next attachment in that weapon’s preset path
-
Goal is often Legendary (5 attachments)
3) Archetypes + Class Benefits
-
Each weapon is tied to a Build Theme (archetype) that defines how it plays
-
As you upgrade rarity, you also gain stacking class benefits (like recoil control, reload speed, flinch resistance, etc.)
-
Bullet drop/velocity improves at key rarity levels (varies by weapon class)
HUD & Inventory Updates: “Cerebral Link”
The HUD keeps a Warzone layout but adds more readable intel:
-
Visible health values
-
Weapon Rarity + Archetype
-
Full attachment upgrade path
-
Expanded backpack: carry more equipment types and faster swapping
Perk System Returns (Consumable + Swappable)
-
Perks are lootable, consumable boosts
-
No fixed perk slots: you can carry up to five, swap with teammates, and activate when needed
-
Perks last a short/medium/long duration depending on type
Equipment & Match Features
Blackout-style gear returns, including:
-
Grappling Hook
-
Sensor Dart
